That sensitive, new man who cleans the house, does the laundry and changes diapers he doesn't exist. That's right, the new man is a myth. Despite all the focus on feminists' pressure for men to help around the house, a new study found that guys don't do any more chores than they did 30 years ago. While the amount of time wives spend on household duties has dropped from 19.5 hours a week to 14.5, it's not because they're doing less. The five hour drop is due to improved gadgets and appliances that shorten the work. Meanwhile, University of Michigan researchers found that guys spend an average of only seven hours a week helping around the house.

Boys who are especially close to their mothers may be teased by other kids, but they seem to be better adjusted in the long run. In a survey of 426 middle school boys, Arizona State University researcher Carlos Santos found that the so called "mama's boys" had a sense of emotional security that led to better mental health than kids who acted tough. Says Santos, "Mother support and closeness was predictive of better mental health." (Globe)

Fun With Duct Tape!
In Spotswood, New Jersey, a 67-year-old woman, who sealed herself in her car using duct tape in a parking lot was taken into protective custody. Police had to break the driver's side window and remove the Philadelphia woman when she refused to step out of her Honda Accord and attempted to drive off. The entire four-door car was layered in duct tape, sealing the passenger door from the outside and covering the car interior, including the steering wheel and door locks. Only the rear window had a small rectangle of exposed glass. The unidentified woman had been wandering around Middlesex County and appeared to have been living in her car. Police took her to the hospital for a "check-up from the neck-up" after she told them that there were airplanes flying overhead that were trying to get her. (The Star Ledger)
